The Story

The Noticing Stone™ concept emerged during the journey of crafting a book filled with tales designed to inspire self-realization through storytelling. It symbolizes the moments of clarity and insight we encounter in our lives, encouraging us to pause and reflect on our experiences. By embracing these stories, we can uncover the lessons they hold and grow from them. This is the essence of the Noticing Stone — an invitation to notice, reflect, and transform.

The Origin Story

Long ago, in a quiet village nestled at the edge of the wind-carved mountains, a teacher grew weary of seeing how easily people forgot themselves—lost in worries, arguments, ambitions, and illusions.

One day, she picked up a small, smooth stone from the riverbed and called her students around.

“This is no ordinary stone,” she said with a gentle smile. “This is a Noticing Stone.”

The students looked at her curiously.

“When you hold it,” she continued, “you don’t ask it for answers. You don’t whisper wishes. You simply notice.”

“Notice what?” one asked.

She closed her eyes, held the stone in her palm, and replied, “The breath. A single thought. A tension in the belly. A birdcall. A lie I almost believed. A truth I had forgotten.”

The students tried it. One noticed the coldness of fear beginning to rise. Another noticed the sun warming their face. Another saw that he had been about to speak, not to help, but to impress.

Years passed. The teacher died. The students grew old and scattered. Yet the practice lived on.  Each carried a stone in their pocket, not as a charm, but as a reminder: “Pause. Hold. Notice. Return.”

And wherever they went, they left a stone for another to find.
